On January 13, 2012, we boarded a plane for Jalapa, Guatemala to participate in our second volunteer dental trip with Kindness In Action. We spent a total of 10 days travelling to and from the small villages in the countryside of Jalapa, Guatemala. We were hosted at a camp owned and run by Wells of Hope, another Canadian run charity based out of Ontario. The volunteers here took exceptional care of our every need as we prepared for the 4 days of clinic at local schools. The line-ups were endless and we had to turn people away which is hard to see but we took comfort in knowing that another dental group would be continuing on during the next month. We hope you enjoy the photos and video we capured while on our trip of all the beautiful faces and scenery.
This lovely flowering plant was dropped off at the clinic last week with the following thank you message attached....
Lindsey, thank you for taking such good care of my daughter. You noticed her thyroid looked swollen on Nov. 17, 2014, which she had checked. It was cancer for which she had successful treatment and she's okay now. John
I really wanted to share this with everyone and to give thanks and recognition to Lindsey for her amazing care and attention to detail. What a difference you have made in her life. Also a reminder to all dental hygienists about the role we play in health care. Keep up the great work everyone! ... See MoreSee Less
The Share a Smile team has completed another successful dental mission in the Nootka Sound area of Vancouver Island. The team started out travelling to Kyuquot for a 2 day clinic there. Another 2 day clinic in Zeballos and finally a 2 day clinic in Tahsis. They helped many people in these remote communities with dental hygiene needs who do not have easy access to dental care. The mission was a great success and Share a Smile is already looking forward to next year. Watch for pictures...coming soon. ... See MoreSee Less
